Radio Hauraki is a New Zealand rock music station that started Established in 1966, Radio Hauraki is a rock music station located in New Zealand. Operating illegally until 1970 to challenge the monopoly maintained by the state-owned New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, it was the first private commercial radio station of the contemporary broadcasting era in New Zealand. Before disbanding in 2012, Hauraki performed a blend of mainstream and vintage Rock songs. It began playing contemporary rock and alternative songs from the previous 25 to 30 years in 2013. As one of eight NZME Radio stations, Radio Hauraki’s main studios and head office are currently situated on Cook and Nelson Streets in the Auckland CBD. This is the station’s current legal configuration.
