The birth of Cadena Iberica is linked to the figure of Eugenio Fontán, historical director general of the Cadena SER, from 1963 to 1985. That year, the purchase of the SER by the PRISA Group caused its exit from the station. At his departure, Fontan sold his family’s shareholding package to the Polanco family and, together with the money from his compensation, he bought through the company Union Iberica de Radio, SA the historic Radio España de Madrid (EAJ-2), the second oldest radio station in the country.
