Radio 1 was formed in 1991, but the actual start broadcasting came in the fall of 1990 during an exhibition Totalitarian zone in the basement of the former Stalin monument at Letná in Prague. Broadcasting the then pirate radio station Stalin (19 to 25 October 1990) has generated an extraordinary response, however, it was a few days after officially stopped. Petition for restoration of broadcasting and against the monopoly of state radio and television was signed by 30 000 people. At the beginning of 1991 the equipment was returned (February 15, 1991 arose Radio Ultra, which after 25 March 1991 granting the license has changed to Radio 1) and Radio 1 has thus become the first private independent radio station in this country.
